Student non-violent coordinating committee
The Student Non-violent Coordinating Committee was organized at Shaw University, during a conference called by SCLC staff member, Ella Baker. She challenged the students to put together an organization for and by the college students, fighting for justice and equality.
In the fall of 1964, SNCC began focusing on organizing in Alabama and specifically Tuskegee Institute. Their support of the TIAL helped to produce Freedom Fighters from the student population, at the time leading up to the Selma-to-Montgomery March in 1965. Among those student Freedom Fighters was Sammy Younge, Jr. |
